A total update of this 1980s kitchen was done by installing a large center island which provides storage, workspace and additional seating. The walls between the kitchen and family room were removed to create an open felling and French doors leading to the backyard deck were replaced with a slider glass door. New flooring and a direct-vent fireplace were added to the family room and, by removing the walls between the kitchen and family room, these features can also be enjoyed while working in the kitchen. Custom window treatments were the finishing touches provided by Mary.
A front entry area was created to make the most of the entire downstairs living space. The downstairs half-bath also received an overhaul by rearranging and updating the bathroom fixtures. The new placement of the sink and toilet now provide more privacy for the homeowners.
